Fabric Mailer: Will it Get There? Let’s Find Out!

A few days ago I was at the post office with both of my children. Anybody who has small children knows that they are like little timers that are secretly set by someone else. You don’t know when they are going to go off. When you have an errand to run to somewhere “not that fun” like the post office or the grocery store, you know you are on a timer and you better get in and out quick before something loud happens. Every parent knows this. So it should come as no surprise that my milling about trying to find the best mailer envelope for my item did not last as long as I would have liked. As the situation began to break down I knew I had to grab whatever worked and get going. I was not happy with the type or price of the mailer I used.

I drove home wondering to myself why these flimsy little paper envelopes cost so much. I mean, sheesh, I could get a yard of fabric for……..wait……..I should…….I wonder if…….

Enter the voice of reason in my head: Don’t try it, Nicole. You do NOT have time for this.

Reason lost. I tried it.

Notice there are two pockets: One between the outer and lining fabric which holds a piece of paper showing your mailing information and stamp, and the main pocket, which holds all the goodies you are mailing.

Full disclosure: I did not measure or cut well on this project because I got the general idea in my head and was so curious as to whether or not it would successfully get to its destination, that I rushed through it. Consider this a prototype. If it actually mails and gets to where I send it, I will take the time to do one with accurate measurements and cutting and do a quick post about how it was made. Which brings me to the next item of business: Who would like me to mail them this fabric mailer?!

The first person to comment in the blog comments below and tell me they want it gets it. Somewhere within the United States, please (not sure what mailing out of the states would cost me and considering I don’t even know if this will make it through our postal system, let’s keep it in the US for now).

What do you think? Will it get to its destination? Would you use it?

  1. I know a certain girl and boy who would love to be your guinea pigs in this experiment. I wonder if it will work 🙂 I know some other odd things that get through.
